MANUFACTURING  ENGINEER

 

Job Description

Plant Engineer will report directly to the General Manager and job duties will consist of the following:

  • Will need to become intimately familiar with the manufacturing processes and ensure that safe and best practices are being adhered to

  • Responsible for the development, design and execution of all major capital projects

  • Oversee all special projects including manufacturing process improvements

  • Responsible for overseeing all continuous improvement projects pertaining to plant operations

  • Will need to have the  “hands on” approach and will have direct involvement in delegated “capital” projects (i.e. purchase of new machinery, additions/alterations to plant)

  • Self-starter with a continuous vision to improve all aspect of plant operations

  • Responsible for the maintenance of the site and buildings to include all building services

  • Responsible for hiring, reviewing and disciplining any direct reports

  • Assist the maintenance department with technical issues to maintain an acceptable level of equipment availability

  • Continually optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of all plant processes and equipment to maximize throughput and minimize cost

  • Ensure all legislated inspections are completed and deficient items corrected

  • Define the requirements of a world class preventive maintenance and predictive maintenance program

  • Assist the maintenance department with all technical issues when requested

  • Work with the technical teams of our joint venture partners in developing new processes and equipment changes

  • Responsible for the management of all major shutdown maintenance

  • As part of the leadership team ensure the workplace is free of hazards and kept in exceptional 5S condition

  • Act as co-chair of an effective JHSC

  • Act as site SPA for all environmental regulations

  • Must be flexible regarding working hours and off hour call ins

  • Manage all contractor based maintenance

  • Develop and maintain an inventory of essential critical spares

  • Keep current on industry technology

  • Any other duties as assigned

     

    Qualifications

  • Candidate should possess a P. Eng designation (or is in the process of obtaining designation), with a Mechanical Engineering degree from a North American institution

  • Must have 5 & years’ experience as a Plant Engineer or a Mechanical Engineer (or in a similar role)

  • Previous budgetary & fiscal responsibility experience

  • Candidates with metal processing/aluminum extrusion experience, tool design, tool room practices and fabrication knowledge will be seriously considered
